Community Security?

I was browsing through the tags and saw that some entries here have been made Members Only and it's my fault for not being clear in the first place and I apologize, but this community is NOT Members Only...it is Public. So from now on please don't lock your entries when you post here, thank you. =)

And even though i'm a maintainer I don't have the ability to go in and change the security on these posts, so if you've made a Members Only post and you have the time, please go back and edit the security on your post, please. This community may go Members Only in the future, but at this juncture we are remaining public.

Now that i'm thinking about it, I might as well ask...What is the point of communities like these being Members Only? Are their certain benefits of being MO that i'm not aware of? Let me know!

Edit: nvm, we may be going Members Only now, as some good points have been made about the benefits of it.
Treat this like a poll--who is for and who is against going MO?

Friends locking entries is a good way of protecting ourselves..especially where real people are concerned. We don't want them to find out about RPF and sue us for slander/invading their privacy and stuff like that. :/

Well that makes sense. Maybe this community should go MO then. But since I can't change the security on all the posts, would the members that actully posted the entries have to come back in and edit them? Is there a way I can lock all of them simultaneously?

When I post here I usually make my posts members only. I don't know why. lol

And while this communtiy isn't really for that, sharing/downloading music and videos is a big reason for being mo.

as well as hotlinking graphics and photos, i guess.

Oh I always thought this was a MO community given the subject matter. I used to be a mod on another community so I know you as a mod/maintainer can go in and set it to where from here on out every new entry that anyone posts will automatically be a locked post so you don't have to worry about someone forgetting to lock it themselves. I never did find a way to go back and locking old posts though.

I always thought this was a members only community. I just assumed so because the community is based on real life people.

I am
Sorry..but i think we shouldn't do members only..because then what's the point of being david/selena fan site or something or community..coz i think this should be open for everybody..so every david/selena fan can go and see some updates maybe, and pics they wanna use...and that stuff...right...? but if u want it to be MO..then im ok with it..! ^_^

Please don't go memeber's only. I'm not a memeber, but then again I'm not a huge David/Selena fan (not really into RPF or anything), but every now and then I pop on over and read posts and comment on pics. I may not really be a fan, but I like the information and I do think they would be cute togther. I'm not here often enough to join, but I do comment and read. Maybe I shouldn't have a say in this, but I am asking you not to block those of us that are borderline fans out.

Well for security reasons I've already made the community members only. Because this is a community dealing with real life people and not fictional characters I felt it was appropriate to not make the community public. I don't want someone (i.e David or Selena or anyone associated with them) to accidentally stumble upon this community in search engine results. There's a legal and moral issue with Real-Person Shipping and I think it's in the best interest of the members of this community if we can retain our anonymity as much as possible on the internet as a whole.

So i'm really sorry, but if you want to see the posts in this community, borderline fan or not, you're going to have to join--which really shouldn't be a huge deal considering it's an open membership.

and furthermore, I don't mind if you join but decide not to participate or comment in the community. We have over 300 members and not even a quarter are active. This community is more of just an archive for pictures, news, videos, fic & graphics. Just because you are a member doesn't mean you have to be a hardcore fan of the ship and participate and comment on every entry.

I don't have to be active? Ok then. Thanks. XD
